Fresh from our BoaTs – FAQs

All of our team are trained in food safety and hygiene, and we take allergens seriously. Every product is handled with care and responsibility.

Q: How do you keep everything fresh?
A: As soon as our catch comes aboard, it’s boxed and iced immediately. We always carry plenty of ice on the boats and transport everything in a temperature-controlled vehicle, so there’s no spoilage or temperature changes — just the freshest seafood possible.
Fun fact: Boats selling directly to customers must pass strict inspections and certification from the local authority.

Q: Do you sell to other fishmongers locally?
ANo we do not.
Please note: we are an independent business and do not supply or have any connection with other fishmongers. When you buy from us, you can be confident you’re receiving seafood that comes directly from our boats and our trusted sources, handled with care, and sold only by our team. We can be found every Saturday in Highcliffe.

Q: Is freshness guaranteed?
A: Fresh fish should have clear, bright eyes, vibrant red gills, moist shiny skin, and firm flesh. Above all, it should smell like the sea.
We guarantee this quality by taking short inshore trips, icing our catch immediately, and handling every fish with care.
Some species, like salmon, cannot be caught commercially in England — so when customers request it, we source it only from trusted suppliers.
Fun Fact: Commercial fishermen are not allowed to catch salmon or sea trout. Doing so can result in seized boats, revoked licenses, and heavy fines.

Q: What do you catch?

A: Fishing in the Solent and Bournemouth waters, we bring in a wide variety of species including Dover Sole, Black Bream, Bass, Cod, Plaice, Brill, Turbot, Grey Mullet, Red Mullet, Skate, John Dory, Pollack, Huss, Gurnard, Dabs, Mackerel, Squid, Crab, Lobster, Scallops, Clams, Whelks — and more, depending on the season.
